Carolyn’s background is in painting, photography and filmmaking. She has a BA in Art from Smith College and an MFA in Filmmaking from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Now a resident of Marfa, her most recent passion is sign-painting, and her hand-lettered signs can be seen adorning façades all over Marfa, Alpine and Fort Davis.
Carolyn is responsible for the Lincoln mural, all Lincoln signage, and other hand-lettering all over the property.
"I’m a Texas native but I’ve been in Savannah, GA for 10 years. I currently work as a painter and opened a studio with my friends called @dreamhousesavannah. I feel happiest and most peaceful in the desert and try to get out there once a year!"
Allison painted an enormous and colorful desert landscape mural in the West courtyard behind the Pink House.
LéAna’s career as an artist spans decades. Exposed to art and photography at a young age, LéAna’s work has moved to reject photographic traditions in recent years, her imagery becoming more abstract while using the camera to ‘paint’ with light and color.
LéAna photographed and produced the Marfa Cloud Series during the summer of 2017. These abstract images are composed of single, long exposures, derived from the long trains of shipping containers that wind through the West Texas desert.

“I am interested in moments of clarity: those specific instances when I don’t know if I am dreaming or wide awake. When communication is easy and I can see pathways into the future. I find truth in the ritual of incorporating pigment into oil and like a scientist, tend to get very involved with alchemy and palette. The paintings that develop are not happy accidents. They are calculated tests on the boundaries of control.”
Native-Texan Kristin moved to Los Angeles in 2014 to complete her MFA at Otis College of Art + Design. Traveling back and forth between LA and Austin, Kristin made many pitstops in Marfa. Inspired by Ed Ruscha’s work, Kristin translates her personal travel photography into atmospheric paintings.

“Native to the once-small cowpoke town of Marfa, Texas, I grew up in a time where the ice cream man still roamed the streets and the burrow lady was everyone’s neighbor. After retiring from being my Alma Mater’s mascot, I attended Sul Ross State University, graduating with a Bachelor’s degree in Science. During this time, I met my husband and soon began living the nomadic RV life on the pipeline. Traveling from town to town, I needed something to put my focus into. I started blogging full-time, and soon, painting. From this came Chaotic Paints/Living both in reflection of our lifestyle. Chaotic yet beautiful, never knowing what was to come. I now reside in Central Texas with my husband, growing a bountiful garden, raising chickens, and painting full time.”
For thirty years, Brien has been working exclusively with Polaroid instant and B&W 35mm film to document the people and expansive places of the Western US high desert. By design, Brien often chooses a soft focus for his Polaroid work, which elicits singular colors and an intentional ambiguity regarding subject and space.
